fengshui is more about how you use areas in your house, depending on the facing of your front door, where energy enters – this dictates what energy distribution you have in your house. so in a way, fengshui is like the arrangement of the different rooms (not furnitures) inside your house. basically, you cannot make a room more luckier, so you determine which areas have good energy and which areas have bad energy (this is the energy distribution) and you also need to know what kind/ characteristics do the energy present has, so you can use it accordingly.
is it okay to put carpets with flower designs, i cannot see why not. the thing is if your kitchen or dining is in a location with good energy, then it does not matter what you put in it or how you decorate it with, because it will enjoy that good energy. in fengshui, the more you use a certain space, the more the energy that is in it becomes your life. so if good exist in it, then your life feels luckier; if bad exists, then you’ll have more accidents and expenses.
